2016 East and West, Past and Present
The 2016 generation of published works, " East and West, Past and Present " was a bold attempt and breakthrough in these past few years, where we took our accumulated experience and ideas and for the first time produced a very visual presentation of Chinese dance compositions.
At first glance — the red lantern sleeves, the lion dance, lotus lamps, a Chinese/Taiwan folk symbol — there appears to be an abundance of Chinese themes represented in the production. However these aspects are both delicately and boldly mixed with western jazz dance techniques and modern dance forms, as well as various types of lighting, such as flashlights and LED lamps. All of this put together seems to take us through themes both ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign.
Using the “Lamp” to connect the past and present and to explore the Eastern and Western cultures. Through the lighting and dousing of the lamp, the beginning and end of fates, small personal stories are derived from the past and present through different illumination methods to remind the audience to reflect on oneself for more inspirations in life.
