Juedai Contemporary

Introduction

Founded by local artist couple Lin Chih-Ping and Pan Yu-Chen in 2005, Juedai Contemporary Jazz Dance Theater has been annually nominated by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture as an Excellent Support Team since 2009. Within a decade, the dance troupe boldly integrated martial arts, acrobatics and various dance styles into their performances. In addition to using the unique cultural characteristics and current social issues of Taiwan as production themes, the troupe also fuses Eastern and Western cultures to reflect social phenomenons and connection with life in the hopes of creating a uniquely Taiwan dance trend.
The dance troupe is named “Juedai” for two reasons: the first is to combine “Jue Shi” (Jazz dance) and “Xian Dai” (Modern dance) to create a foundation for dance development; and the other being a homophone to indicate unparalleled beauty and quality, indicating the troupe’s ambition of creating a unique dance trend of diversity. “Xian Dai” (Modern dance) is artistic, challenging and requires experimenting while “Jue Shi” is passionate, lively and entertaining, and based on these distinctive qualities, Juedai seeks to create innovation. Be it used as promotion for domestic or foreign grassroots cultural education activities or used in international art festivals and dance events, Juedai always presents dances that are free and enjoyable, and believes that their beliefs may allow the dances to develop more connections with the environment and broaden the vision of the audience.
Whether it's jazz, modern or traditional Chinese, a western or Chinese theme, JueDai uses these dance forms and through our dance skills and technique, fuse these aesthetic elements, showing that this generation is a multi-culture of performance and information sharing.
